Membership Requirements
A. Possess a current Amateur Radio License of any class other than novice.
B. Be at least 18 years of age.
C. Must hold a valid Driver's License. Exceptions to this requirement may be granted by the Emergency Management Department.
D. Pass a background check.
E. Must have good moral character and have no convictions of a felony or misdemeanor crime that would indicate that the individual’s membership in RACES would be detrimental to the service performed by RACES.
F. Complete Type IV B and C of the Credentialing Requirements.
G. Must have the willingness and desire to function as a member of RACES.
Continuing Participation Requirements
A. Attend a minimum of SIX RACES General Meetings per calendar year.
B. Check into a minimum of SIX RACES Nets per calendar quarter.
C. Attend one National Weather Service Severe Weather Seminar per year if available
D. Complete and pass the annual SKWYWARN Storm Spotter Training and Test.
E. Attend the Annual SET Exercise and/or a Field Day event.
F. If signed up as a trained storm spotter. You are to be a part of at least THREE storm activations per year if the weather permits it.
Credentialing Requirements
Type IV
A. License - Technician Class or Higher
B. Complete FEMA IS-100 and IS-700 courses.
C. Possess a Government Issued ID (Drivers License, Student ID, etc)
D. Have a Wyandotte County EM Issued RACES ID
Type III
A. All of Type IV
B. Demonstrate ability to act as a Net Control.
C. Complete FEMA IS-200, IS-800 Courses
Type II
A. All of Type III
B. Proficient of one mode other than voice (i.e. digital, code, ATV, etc.)
C. License - General Class or higher.
D. Operating proficiency as a Net Control
E. Complete FEMA IS-1, IS-120, IS 139, IS-235b, IS-288 courses.
Type I
A. All of Type II
B. Active Wyandotte County RACES member for at least one year.
C. Coordinate and Lead a Wyandotte County RACES Exercise.
D. Complete FEMA IS-230d, IS-240a, IS241, IS-242, IS-244 courses.
